Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is the result of a hormonal imbalance and women often experience numerous symptoms with the disorder. There is often insulin resistance, difficulty in losing weight, unwanted facial hair, acne, painful or lack of menstruation, and infertility. In primary care, PCOS is typically treated with oral contraceptives. Reversing the symptoms of the condition, includes balancing the hormones, particularly with progesterone, correcting insulin resistance, and eliminating excess androgens. Bioidentical hormone therapy, lifestyle modifications, correcting micronutrients, and certain supplements can be an effective treatment option for PCOS.
